Last night, our town’s iconic fountain was transformed into a stunning tribute to Italian heritage, as it was illuminated in the vibrant colors of the Italian flag: green, white, and red. This beautiful display was in honor of a significant proclamation made by the Fountain Hills Town Council, declaring October as “Italian American Heritage Month” in our community. This recognition serves as a testament to the rich cultural contributions and enduring presence of Italian Americans in Fountain Hills.
We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to Steve Baggio, the dedicated president of our local Italian organization, the Fountain Hills Italian Interest Group, for his tireless efforts in making this momentous occasion a reality. His leadership and passion for preserving and celebrating Italian culture have been instrumental in bringing this recognition to fruition.
Our heartfelt appreciation also extends to Mayor Ginny Russo Dickey and the entire Town Council for their support and for issuing this important proclamation. Their recognition of the significant role played by the Italian American community in shaping the cultural fabric of Fountain Hills is deeply appreciated. This proclamation not only honors those of Italian descent who have made Fountain Hills their home but also celebrates the diversity and inclusivity that makes our town such a special place to live.
To commemorate this special occasion, over 40 enthusiastic members of our Italian Interest Group gathered at the beloved local establishment, Euro Pizza Cafe. There, we shared in the excitement and camaraderie as we watched the fountain’s illumination ceremony together. The atmosphere was electric, filled with pride and joy as we witnessed our town’s most recognizable landmark transformed into a symbol of our shared heritage.
A special note of gratitude goes out to Merita Kraya Idrizaj and the entire staff of Euro Pizza Cafe for their exceptional hospitality. The delectable cuisine, attentive service, and lively music they provided created the perfect ambiance for our celebration, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the spirit of our Italian heritage.
